Now that the Training Fund is serving more members than ever, we have established two enrollment periods for the Tuition Assistance program. This new process allows the Training Fund to fairly manage disbursements of Tuition Assistance funds while serving the greatest number of members.
This update applies to members of all bargaining units applying for Tuition Assistance for school starting in 2020 (and beyond). If you’re already receiving Tuition Assistance, you do not need to reapply; please check with your Regional Education Navigator about maintaining your eligibility.
The Training Fund accepts applications year-round and will review for Tuition Assistance after two enrollment periods each year: closing deadlines are October 15 and May 15. For tuition requests for school during the upcoming calendar year, apply by October 15. If the Training Fund has additional funding available, we will review another round of applications after the May 15 deadline.
Members are encouraged to apply any time during the year so that you can be connected with career counseling, education navigation, and other benefits you may be eligible for in support of your education and career goals. However, members will only receive decisions about Tuition Assistance after the enrollment periods close.
Tuition Assistance funding spots are based on seniority in your Bargaining Unit at your employer.
Meet with a Regional Education Navigator
When first applying for Tuition Assistance funding, a Training Fund Regional Education Navigator (REN) will schedule a required meeting with you to help you prepare for school and discuss your interest in Tuition Assistance. You must meet with your Navigator in order to remain on the enrollment list. Your Navigator will provide you with information about the college application process, discuss the full range of Training Fund benefits available to you, and share important deadlines to help you plan your education pathway.
When you apply, we will add you to the enrollment list. After the enrollment period closing deadlines, we will let you know whether you’ve been accepted into the Tuition Assistance program. Many people requesting Tuition Assistance get access the first time they apply. However, there may be a wait, depending on how many members apply during each enrollment period and their seniority levels.
Enrolling in School
Only apply for Tuition Assistance if you are ready to enroll in school. After you receive a funding spot, you’ll have six months to register for your pre-requisite courses or a full calendar year (12 months) to enroll in a degree program. If you are unable to meet these deadlines, funding will be withdrawn and provided to another member.
Requirements for Continued Funding
Once admitted to the Tuition Assistance program, you can receive funding through the completion of your prerequisite courses and/or approved degree program. Please discuss the continued funding requirements with your REN.
